Father Rabbit is my latest online obsession. Well, that's not counting my latest fashion escapades of course. I'm always impressed by designers and/or retailers who can stick to such a strict colour palette. Looks fantastic as a curated collection.....but how do they stay so disciplined? There are so many things out there that I love - one minute it's over the top colourful, the next minute it's monochromatic. More power to those who can stick so strongly to a theme.

An AHH-MAZING house by Pearse Architects. Truly, I am salivating all over my keyboard.....

"This project was to enlarge the living areas of an existing house & relate them to an established garden.

The scale of the house is made intentionally lower than the scale of the garden so that the house appears to sit within the garden; a pond was used to mediate the level change between the floor of the house & the garden. To retain privacy from an overlooking neighbouring house, stepping joinery units are used to screen the interiors while allowing views to the garden.

Details include: combination pond & garden bed; stained & waxed floor; oculus skylight; built-in sofa; retractable curtain; pocket sliding doors.

Project designed in collaboration with Brian Kiernan.

A new product to drool over by Coco Flip. The Mr Cooper pendant, just released in Melbourne this week by designer Kate Stokes. I've previously lusted after the Coco Pendant, and this new piece is just as breathtaking. Designed to hang in a cluster, I'm actually personally loving just one of these little beauties all on it's own.

Inspired by the old tin can telephone or 'lovers telephone' this spun copper pendant light pays tribute to a time gone by. In 1664 Robert Hooke experimented with sound transmission through a distended wire. Mr. Cooper celebrates this era of invention and observations. The shades are designed to be hung in a cluster, cascading from a single ceiling plate and hooking to various points using copper crimps. The swage lines reference the ridges of a tin can as well as adding rigidity and detail to the form.

How fabulous is this rug, designed by Diane Steverlynck for Limited Edition.

Designed by Diane Steverlynck, DOTS is the result of her fascination with textural surfaces, functionality and the industrial process. The carpet is made of felted wool balls assembled together to form 56 x 56cm tiles. As such this fabulous carpet can be extended to fill a room of any size or add extra oomph with a variety of colours. For those not yet familiar with the work of Belgian designer Steverlynck, be prepared for an amazing carpet solution that most decidedly the work of an artist with a degree in both visual arts and textile design from La Cambre National School of Visual Arts in Brussels. Check out these gorgeous garden sculptures by Samantha Bell. Some are even light sculptures, and I am imagining how stunning would they be out the front of our place at night. Samantha Bell is a designer, born, raised and studied a degree of Visual Communication in Adelaide. Having lived and worked in Darwin, London and Sydney Sam returned home to raise a family in 2003. Samantha started working with metal to satisfy a personal need for unique garden sculpture. It comes as an extension of a graphic design career, in which she has worked for almost 20 years. The inspiration for her work is from nature's own beauty along with the love of repetition and patterning of shapes. Themes include marine sea life and Australian landscape with a dash of whimsical abstraction.

A couple of interesting bathrooms by Mim Design. These are not bathrooms I'd specifically want for our place, but there's a couple of concepts I like here:

The colour of this bathroom is very soothing, although all that travertine tile is not my gig. I do love the feature lights coming down in the corner though, and the lines of the floating cabinetry.

Interesting mirror detail here. Mim always seem to use a feature light in their bathroom designs, which I love. Bathroom lighting always seems to be such a serious (hence, boring) affair, I think we forget we can have fun with it.

And I've included this image (from the Mim website) below even though it has nothing to do with bathrooms. Isn't this perfection?

Ok, so it may be time for us to think about renovating our main bathroom and ensuite soon. We've been living with the same daggy 70's fitouts for the past six years (where does the time go??), and I'm seriously in hate with both of them.

Our reno's will definitely be on a budget, I want each room to look the best it can for the least amount possible. Looking at these pics from Chez Larsson reminded me how much I love simple white subway tiles. Definitely with the beveled edge. No doubt not as cheap as the flat version, but surely still at the lower end of the budget.

Uber stylist Jason Grant is taking over Australia! Not only is he the genius behind so many of the beautiful images that grace the pages of magazines such as Real Living and Inside Out, he is also making over giants like Officeworks and Freedom. I love his unique style, usually tending towards muted colours and interesting vintage pieces. So it's exciting to hear he has collaborated with Murobond to release a limited edition range of colours in the coming months. I want to me some of those!

I managed to catch up on some recorded episodes of Grand Designs today and completely fell in love with Corkellis House by interior designer Kathryn Tyler.

Her aesthetic, her manner, her enthusiasm and her drive for perfection - it was such a pleasure to see unfold. I was actually a little depressed after watching the programme. My own house has fallen by the wayside with so many other things going on lately. I wish I could be as single minded and energetic as Kathryn.

I am helping one of my best friends organise her wedding for later this year. Hence, I have been scouring the net for some inspirational pics to get us started. It's amazing where you can find that most elusive element at times: inspiration. Something that moves you and provides you with what you really need most, a starting point.

I came across these amazing wedding pics at Style Me Pretty. The inspiration was, of all things, a simple ball of yarn.

It's one of the most unique and interesting colour schemes for a wedding I've seen. Not everyone's cup of tea by any means, but I have to say I am a little bit in love.

Being a lighting freak, I loathe those hideous new bulbs we've been forced to take up (well, unless of course, like me, you gathered all available world stocks of incandescents, before they were removed from the shelves....naughty!). Wonder when are these babies going to be available in Australia?

The globe has been three years in development, and has been on sale since October 2010. At present is is only available with an Edison Screw (E27) fitting, but a Bayonet Cap version will go on sale in 2011. It is also currently only made for countries with a voltage system of 230v, a 110V version, for North America and parts of South America, will also be available in 2011.

There are 5 different designs of the Plumen 001. The designs are different, but the specs remain the same. Manufacturers Hulger claim the globe will last 8 times longer than an incandescent bulb, and the colour output is warm white.

The Plumen 001 sells for £19.95.

On a flying visit to Melbourne last night, I stopped by Papa Goose in Flinders Lane for a bite to eat. Loved everything about it - the setting, the lighting, the food - and especially.....the toilets!

I have this weird obsession with hotel/restaurant/public-space toilets. Apologies for the quality of these two shots, taken with my phone. Is it sad that I take photos of toilets I think are cool? I just think if a designer has taken the time to really think about this usually unappealing and utilitarian aspect of a space, it shows a major appreciation for details. And we all know that god is in the details! (thank you Mr Ludwig Mies van der Rohe).

A while back, whilst searching for inspiration for bathrooms, I came across a couple of pics with window film applied for privacy reasons. I love this idea, particularly for a bathroom. Recently I saw some of Emma Jeffs work in a magazine and visited her website.

Award winning UK designer Emma Jeffs' passion for materials and print led her to form her own screen-printing company in 2000 under the name Surface Material Design. In 2004 Emma was awarded a UK government NESTA two-year research fellowship. The grant enabled her to undertake in-depth research into print technologies onto a range or materials within industry. Equipped with this new knowledge Emma began producing work, both within her studio, and in conjunction with some notable UK based companies.

Commuting within London on the top decks of buses, Emma developed a loathing for grey net curtains and she soon set about developing a solution to rid London of the net curtain forever. By printing lace patterns onto frosted etched vinyl Emma created an elegant and functional product and in 2006, she launched a collection of contemporary decorative window films for homes today. You can now find her collection of window films in the most stylish of windows all over the world, transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary.

Hello and Happy 2011! We had such a lovely break over the Christmas and New Year period and a heavy social calendar since our return from Melbourne. January is always a bit crazy in my family, with birthdays and all sorts of other things going on.

2011 is going to be an exciting year for our little household with some exciting plans in the works. Isobel is starting pre-school in a few weeks and this signals time for me to get on with my career and work out what is next. Stay tuned for updates!

Our holiday in Melbourne was the usual eating and drinking festival it always turns into. One place I was particularly taken with was The Ludlow Formation at Southbank on the Yarra River. Yes, the food and drink were great.....but the fitout! AWESOME. My husband is used to me picking up chairs, looking for manufacturer labels underneath and running my hands over every surface of a place I haven't been before - but I think even he got sick of my ooooh's and ahhhhh's this time round. It was just the attention to detail of the design and the quality of the workmanship and materials used that sucked me in. Very nice.

The images from the website aren't able to show the quality of the materials or how they all worked together in such cohesion. I was seriously in design heaven. I loved that they had thought so much about acoustics and had used Echo Panel on parts of the ceiling, as well as carrying the parquetry right up and across the ceiling in other parts. Surely expensive, but oh so divine.

The lighting had an industrial edge which worked well with the rest of fitout, particuarly against the warmth of all the timber used. Also, some great decorative tiles and chain curtains to really break it all up. See? Now I'm raving. I need to go and lie down.

We have the doors. We don't yet have the deck. However we have cleared the outdoor space so that it's much more inviting and somewhere we actually want to hang out. We'll be needing a little bit of shade over the coming summer (that's if it actually stops raining and gets hot), and I quite like the idea of a feature umbrella to add a splash of graphic colour. These pixelated umbrellas by Basil Bangs are quite cool...
