RetroModern

I just stumbled across this great Australian company, RetroModern.  The premise is they source vintage pieces of furniture and give them a loving update.  Don't they look awesome!

Based in both Adelaide and Melbourne, these guys are happy to deliver Australia wide.  You can even pick an original piece and have it customised to your liking.  Doesn't get any better than that.

"retromodern brings classic retro style & design into modern interiors. We source, restore and prolong the life of retro furniture.

retromodern specialises in the restoration and alteration of  sideboards, buffets and chest of draws. However we purchase and restore many other retro items that appeal to us as collectors.

Our approach to these items is unique and has become very popular. The demand for retro items is growing and it has become increasingly difficult to find the right piece. We aim to broaden that search by restoring old unwanted items and turning them into something fantastic!  Items that can transform a room!

We turn a unrestored piece of furniture into your specific design. Choose from one of our unrestored pieces or send us a photo of your mid century find for a quote. Each is restored and altered to bring out the best possible appearance. Retaining a timeless appearance, they are tomorrow's antiques and this is what makes them special.

Items that look new but retain their vintage style, design and feel.

Byron + Bangalow

We are home this week from our little getaway to Byron Bay.  It was so lovely - we relaxed, shopped, ate and drank.  Perfection.  The weather was a bit rainy at times, but it was warm and we were just happy to be away.  Such a beautiful part of the world.

Check out this view looking back over to Byron Bay on our way to Bangalow:

On the way from Byron Bay to Bangalow

We spent quite a bit of time in Bangalow, a cute little town about 10 minutes from Byron Bay.  It's not huge, but filled with gorgeous little homes, shops and places to eat.  I think I spent enough in Bangalow to keep the economy buoyant for the rest of 2010.  More on those purchases in a later post.

Is this not the cutest little chemist that you ever did see?

Our accommodation was perfect.  I highly recommend San Juan for any families looking to get away - plenty of room and a large enclosed garden, good for little monkeys to run around and play.  It's tucked away in a little laneway, so is quiet and peaceful but within walking distance off the main part of the Bay.  I loved the beachy feel of the decoration too.  Even when it was raining, I felt summery and on holiday.

A beautiful home

Yesterday I stumbled across the home of Penny Leaver Green on Flickr.  Not sure how I got there, and her style is not really like my own - but I did fall a little in love.  I think it's her colour palette and the homely feel each room projects, I just really want to be there.  Penny has a rare talent for working in really interesting vintage pieces without it feeling like she's trying too hard.  You can tell each room has grown organically and that it's a home that is really lived in.  I love it.
