We are often in Nelson Bay for holidays, as my husband's mother has a house there. During our stays we occasionally take day trips to Newcastle - which I love, mainly for the stunning architecture and fabulous beaches. Newcastle has always been a working class town, due to it's sea ports and coal mines - but it's once lively town centre has become very run down and a bit like a ghost town in places. Things are changing slowly however, and so it was with great excitement that I came across this new development in the De De Ce newsletter yesterday. Next time we are up that way and the weather is playing nice, we'll definitely be paying the Merewether Surfhouse a visit.
